It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At 9:58 PM on April 21, 2023, Sergeant Edward Ring from the Edgewater Police Department arrived at a serious car accident on River Road. He was the first officer on the scene and found a 2022 Tesla Model Y badly damaged, with its airbags deployed. Approaching the vehicle, he spoke to the driver, who was later named Priscilla. As Sergeant Ring cleared some of the airbags and asked her to get out, he noticed a strong smell of alcohol. He tried to ask her several questions, but Priscilla refused to cooperate and requested a lawyer instead. Patrolman Michael Colon arrived shortly after to provide help. EMTs also came to check on Priscilla, but she refused any medical care. A witness on the scene informed the officers that Priscilla had been drinking before driving. Because Priscilla was not cooperating and was acting aggressively, Sergeant Ring chose not to perform the usual field sobriety tests. After the car accident, Sergeant Ring noticed signs that Priscilla was impaired and that she was not cooperating. Because of this, he arrested her for driving under the influence. He took her to the Edgewater Police Department for processing. There, he read her the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators, and she agreed to take breath samples. However, when it came to answering questions, she invoked her Miranda rights and refused to speak. Since the breathalyzer machine at their station was out of order, the officers took Priscilla to the Fairview Police Department to conduct the test. Priscilla blew into the Alcotest and her results showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.11%, which is higher than the legal limit of 0.08%. After taking the breathalyzer test at the Fairview Police Department, she was released to her brother, who signed the Potential Liability Warning form for her before her first court date.
