It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At about 10:44 PM on June 1, 2023, Patrolman Harry Moore arrived at the scene of a car crash on White Horse Pike (US-30). The accident happened near Evesham Avenue (C.R. 544). He saw that a 2016 Kia Optima had hit a 2021 Toyota Highlander. The driver of the Kia was identified as Alexa. She said she hit the vehicle in front of her after the light turned green. However, the damage to the Kia was heavy at the front, and it was leaking fluids. Officers believed she was likely going much faster than she claimed when she hit the other car. Shortly after, Sergeant James Swan arrived to help. As they talked with Alexa, officers smelled alcohol and noticed signs she might be impaired. Alexa said she was coming from a friend's house and admitted she had wine earlier that night. Due to their suspicions, the officers asked her to do field sobriety tests. Moore started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During this test, he saw her eyes drifted abnormally, with nystagmus at maximum deviation. He also saw her eyes started showing nystagmus before 45 degrees. Next, they tried the One Leg Stand. Alexa couldn’t keep her foot up properly and put it down before the test ended. They also attempted the Walk and Turn test, but stopped early for safety. Because of the crash, her alcohol admission, and her poor performance on the tests, Moore arrested Alexa for driving under the influence. Her vehicle was impounded for 12 hours under John's Law. He took her to the police station for processing. At the station, Alexa was read the standard statement for drivers. She agreed to take breath tests. The results showed her blood alcohol content was 0.21%, more than double the legal limit of 0.08%. Alexa was then released to her husband, who signed a court form warning of her potential legal trouble. She received citations for operating under the influence and careless driving. On August 8, 2023, court records show Alexa was found guilty of DUI and careless driving. She had to use an ignition interlock device for three months, spend 12 hours at a driver’s resource center, and pay a total of $880 in fines. 1:06 she was dui. Health insurance??
