On October 6, 2024, an anonymous caller reported an underage party to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. The first deputy to arrive encountered several horse and buggies in the road and a large group of people fleeing on foot. When Deputy Hankins arrived, he attempted to stop one of the buggies, after he observed 3 young women operating it while sitting on a cooler. 2 of the women in the buggy were 17-year-old juveniles, but the buggy was being operated by an 18-year-old woman. All of them admitted to consuming alcohol. The 18-year-old was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests and she was eventually arrested for Operating a Vehicle Impaired (OVI). She was transported to the nearby Ohio State Highway Patrol Post, where she submitted to an evidential breath test. The result was 0.087% BAC.
