This was a traffic stop on the interstate at 3:30 am by a trooper with the Smuggling-Trafficking-Interdiction-Section. They were driving a Chrysler minivan and the trooper was suspicious that they might be involved in illegal activities. The trooper asked for consent to search the vehicle and was able to obtain a search warrant after the driver declined to provide consent. At one point the driver claims that he was being unfairly targeted due to his race. Almost 300 pounds of cocaine was found in suitcases in the back of the vehicle, the suspects denied that it was theirs and claimed it might be the vehicle owners' suitcases. (car was allegedly borrowed). The drugs were picked up in Ontario, California from a location known by police to be associated with a Mexican drug cartel. They were attempting to drive the drugs to Chicago when they were pulled over. They were both charged with drug trafficking.
