On April 10, 2025, staff at a church in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, called police about a mother who had come to pick up her daughter. They told officers they could smell alcohol on her. An officer found her walking toward a Jeep in the parking lot. She told him a friend had dropped her off. When he asked how her Jeep came to be there, she said she had left it there earlier in the day. Officers told her she was being detained; she pulled away and was taken to the ground. Her daughter ran home, and her husband came over from their house down the street. This is the body camera footage from the Sun Prairie Police Department, in the order it happened, from the first questions in the parking lot to the squad car. WHAT HAPPENED NEXT On camera, officers say she is in custody for OWI (operating while intoxicated) and she declines field sobriety tests. In Wisconsin a first OWI offense is a civil citation, not a criminal charge. We have found no criminal court case connected to this incident. She is presumed innocent, and nothing in this video is a finding that she was intoxicated or that she drove. FOOTAGE Body-worn and in-car camera video from the Sun Prairie Police Department, recorded April 10, 2025. Her daughter has been blurred and her name removed.
