Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: At around 11:20 PM on April 18, 2022, Sergeant Figueroa of the Hoboken Police saw a car accident at the intersection of Observer Highway and Madison Street. A 2011 Nissan, driven by 22-year-old Nicole Schweininger, ran a red light and hit a 2017 Mazda. Sergeant Figueroa quickly called for more police units to come to the scene. When an officer reached Schweininger’s vehicle, he asked her to describe what had happened. She appeared confused and stated that she was returning home after visiting a friend in Hoboken. When asked if she had been drinking, she initially claimed she was not under the influence. Hoboken EMS arrived soon after, and first responders examined Schweininger. Officer Damien Bates watched as Schweininger interacted with the EMTs and heard her say she had drunk alcohol earlier at a friend's house in Hoboken. Schweininger also told the EMTs that she did not want to go to the hospital. Once she was cleared by the responders, Officer Brandon Fitzgibbons came to the scene to conduct field sobriety tests. Due to the bad weather, the officers chose to take the tests inside the nearby Fire Department Engine #3 Firehouse at 501 Observer Highway. The first exercise was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. Officer Fitzgibbons noted that Schweininger did not show smooth movement of her eyes, had noticeable and lasting nystagmus in both eyes, and started to exhibit nystagmus before reaching 45 degrees in each eye. Additionally, she struggled to keep her head still and follow the pen correctly. The second test was the Walk and Turn test. Here, Schweininger had difficulty maintaining her balance and could not walk heel-to-toe as required. The last exercise was the One Leg Stand test. In this test, Schweininger was unable to balance on one leg or count accurately. Officer Fitzgibbons arrested Schweininger for driving under the influence after she admitted to drinking alcohol and could not complete the field sobriety tests. Following her arrest, she was taken to Hoboken Police Headquarters for processing. In the processing room, Schweininger struggled to answer most questions because she was intoxicated and eventually vomited. Emergency medical services were called, and she was taken to Hoboken University Medical Center for evaluation. She received summonses for operating under the influence, reckless driving, and third-degree assault by auto.
