At approximately 0828 hours on September 16, 2024, police units were dispatched to a commercial area on Main Street regarding a vehicular burglary in progress. The emergency caller reported a male subject wearing a white shirt, jeans, and no shoes attempting to gain entry into a parked red 2011 pickup truck. Upon arrival, responding officers spotted an individual matching the exact description standing outside the local business. When officers attempted to initiate verbal contact, the suspect completely ignored them. Once questioned about trying to enter the truck, the individual claimed he believed his friend was inside the vehicle. As officers continued the field interview, the suspect attempted to walk away from the parking lot. When physically intercepted by a police supervisor, the individual suddenly bolted into the active southbound lane of Main Street to escape. Officers pursued the suspect into the roadway, where a physical struggle ensued as the individual actively resisted arrest. Responding units successfully brought the suspect to the ground and applied handcuffs. A subsequent walkthrough with the vehicle owner confirmed the truck had been entered, but no items were reported stolen. Roadside searches of the suspect yielded negative results for illegal contraband. The suspect was transported to police headquarters, processed for burglary and resisting arrest by eluding, and subsequently transferred to the county correctional facility on an active warrant. Two officers sustained minor injuries during the roadside struggle and were evaluated by medical personnel. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
