According to police, officers were called by a woman on Madison Street saying her ex-boyfriend was outside her home just before 5 a.m. Officers responded but did not find anyone outside the home. At 7:30 a.m. an officer was once again called to the home on Madison and found Carlos Villalobos, 28, outside with a shotgun. The officer fired several rounds at Villalobos hitting him twice. He was arrested and taken to the hospital where he is expected to survive. During the investigation, officers discovered Villalobos had been firing into his ex-girlfriend's home and may have been shooting at her or someone else inside the home. Villalobos was the only person injured in the incident. The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave which is standard protocol. The Tehama County District Attorney Bureau of Investigation was requested to conduct an independent external investigation of the officer’s actions.
