A Berkeley County deputy collapsed from suspected fentanyl exposure during a traffic stop in Bonneau, South Carolina. Deputies responded to a call about a woman passed out behind the wheel of a black SUV. When a female deputy searched the woman, she found small amounts of an unknown substance in a plastic bag and a folded dollar bill. Moments after handling the bill, the deputy began to experience symptoms and called out for Narcan before collapsing. Quick action by another deputy — administering two doses of Narcan — likely saved her life. Both the substances tested presumptively positive for fentanyl.
