It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At about 1:15 AM on August 7, 2022, Sergeant Gary Borbidge from the Evesham Police Department noticed a 2018 BMW driving wildly on Tuckerton Road. He pulled the car over when it turned onto Longhurst Road. As he got closer, he smelled alcohol and saw a six-pack of Smirnoff beer under the passenger seat, with two bottles missing. Officer Isaiha Rose came to the scene after receiving a report of a possibly drunk driver near Longhurst Road and N Elmwood Road and took over the investigation. The driver, 26-year-old Angelique Pappas, told Officer Rose she had come from a bar and confessed to drinking earlier. Because her speech was slurred and the smell of alcohol was strong, he offered her a chance to do field sobriety tests. Angelique agreed to do the exercises, starting with the Walk and Turn test. She struggled to stay in place and did not manage to take heel-to-toe steps while counting out loud. Next was the One Leg Stand test. Here, Angelique couldn't hold her foot six inches above the ground as asked; she kept moving her arms to stay balanced. The last exercise was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. During this, Sergeant Borbidge noticed that Angelique's eyes did not track smoothly. He saw distinct and lasting jerking at maximum deviation, and the jerking started before her eyes reached 45 degrees in both eyes. Officer Rose arrested Angelique for driving under the influence after observing her traffic violations and erratic behavior on the road. She struggled to complete the field sobriety tests. After being taken to the Evesham Police Headquarters, she was informed of her Miranda rights. Then, Sergeant Borbidge presented her with the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators. Initially, she agreed to provide breath samples but changed her mind when he tried to lead her to the Alcotest machine. After Angelique went through the processing, her mother signed the Potential Liability Warning form to have her released. She received several summonses, including operating under the influence, refusing to take a chemical breath test, reckless driving, and not providing proof of insurance. On October 27, 2022, Angelique admitted to driving under the influence. As a result, she was fined $1,390. Her sentence included 2 days in jail, 30 days of community service, 2 years using an ignition interlock device, and 48 hours at a program for intoxicated drivers.
