On November 21, 2024, deputies with the Broward County Sheriff's Office were called to Gate G-5 at the Fort Lauderdale International Airport to assist Spirit Airlines employees who were dealing with a 23-year-old woman who had lost her luggage. The clearly intoxicated woman believed that a Spirit Airlines employee stole her suitcases, but the woman had apparently left them at Gate G-3 and walked away. As a result of the disruption she caused, Spirit Airlines refused to let her fly that afternoon. She was escorted out of the terminal and to the ticket counter in order to rebook her flight. When she learned that Spirit Airlines had booked her on a flight for the next morning, the woman because increasingly agitated and ended up purposely bumping into one of the deputies. This caused her to be arrested for Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer. She was handcuffed, search, and transported to the Broward County Jail.
