On July 9, 2024, Fayetteville Arkansas police were called to the Walmart, where loss prevention agents had detained two women accused of shoplifting. Walmart security footage shows one of the women "skip scanning", where she paid for some items, but placed other items directly into her bag without scanning them. One woman was released with a shoplifting citation, but the second woman, who had an outstanding warrant for shoplifting, was arrested and transported to the Washington County Detention Center. In addition to being held for the warrant, she was also charged with shoplifting $71.29 from Walmart. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
