A late-night traffic stop escalates when an officer confronts a driver whose erratic behavior and failed sobriety tests lead to a stark reality check. At 3:08 AM, an officer initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle operating without headlights and exhibiting erratic driving patterns. Upon contact, the officer noted signs of impairment, including incoherent speech and the odor of alcohol, prompting a series of field sobriety exercises. The driver struggled significantly with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, One Leg Stand, and Walk and Turn tests, and failed to recite the alphabet as instructed. Despite being offered an opportunity for a chemical test, the officer proceeded to read the individual their rights, leading to an arrest for driving under the influence. Subsequent Alcotest results indicated a blood alcohol concentration double the legal limit, leading to processing and release to a sober party. --- Transparency through the lens of the law.
