It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At 10:48 PM on January 4, 2025, Officer Shane Daly from the Verona Police Department responded to a report of a car crash on Lakeside Avenue, near Bloomfield Avenue. When he arrived, he saw a 2023 Honda HR-V had hit a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The officer approached the driver of the Honda, identified as Sulah Lee, and then spoke with the Hyundai driver to hear her side of the story. Soon after, Sergeant Aaron Seubert and Officer Marcos Czupak arrived to help. While talking to her, they noticed signs that seemed to suggest she was under the influence. Sulah told the officers she had consumed three drinks earlier that evening. Based on her behavior, they asked her to step out of the car and perform some field sobriety tests. Sergeant Seubert began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. Next was the Walk and Turn test. During this test, Sulah failed to touch her heel to her toe with each step, turned improperly, and didn’t return to her starting point. The last test was the One Leg Stand. She couldn’t keep her foot up properly and put it down before finishing the test. Because of her crash, her admission to drinking, and her poor performance on the sobriety tests, Sulah was placed under arrest for DWI. Her vehicle was then towed for a 12-hour hold under John’s Law. The other driver was able to leave the scene in her own car. Czupak and Seubert took Sulah to the Cedar Grove Police Department for processing. She was read the standard statement for drivers and agreed to give breath samples. The test showed her blood alcohol content was 0.20%, over twice the legal limit of 0.08%. After finishing the procedures, she was released to a sober adult until her court date. Someone signed the Potential Liability Warning on her behalf. Officer Daly issued her three tickets: one for driving under the influence, another for reckless driving, and one for careless driving. Court records show that on June 5, 2025, Sulah was convicted of DWI. She paid a total of $383 in fines.
