On June 18, 2024, Rio Rancho police officers were dispatched to a possible intoxicated driver who was driving erratically and had allegedly struck a curb. Officer Koger located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The 19-year-old woman admitted to drinking alcohol at her mother's house, then driving to her grandparents' house, before getting back into the car and driving some more. Based on her admission of drinking, she was asked to step out of the car in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests. After completing the tests, she was placed under arrest for Driving While Under the Influence (DWI). She was transported to the Rio Rancho police station, where she agreed to submit to an evidential breath test. The results of the test were 0.16% and 0.15% BAC.
