Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: On April 21, 2024 at approximately 3:29 AM, Officer John Simonetti from the Mount Olive Police Department promptly responded to a report concerning a motor vehicle collision on Center Street. Upon arrival at the scene, it was noted that a 2018 Nissan Sentra had collided with a parked 2009 Honda Civic. Officer Simonetti inquired about the driver involved and subsequently made contact with the 21-year-old individual behind the wheel of the Nissan Sentra, identified as Kelsey. While conversing with Kelsey, he noticed the smell of alcohol and observed other signs of impairment. Inquired about her whereabouts, Kelsey mentioned visiting a restaurant in Jersey City and then heading to Hoboken before being driven back around 45 miles to Mount Olive by a friend. Despite not being the driver, she had to briefly operate a vehicle to retrieve her forgotten ID at her friend's residence. Unfortunately, on her way home, she collided with a parked car, causing significant damage. Considering the accident and his suspicions, Officer Simonetti requested Kelsey to undergo field sobriety tests. Sergeant Tyler Mullooly initiated the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During the HGN test, four out of six indicators of impairment were observed. The subsequent exercise was the Walk and Turn test, during which Kelsey demonstrated failure to touch heel-to-toe on each step, turned improperly, and took an incorrect number of steps. The final exercise conducted was the One Leg Stand test, during which Kelsey failed to raise her foot in the appropriate manner and relied on her arms for balance. Following the motor vehicle accident, the observation of her impairment, and her failure to perform the field sobriety exercises adequately, Kelsey was arrested for driving under the influence. Subsequently, she was taken to the Chester Police Department because the Mount Olive Police Department lacked a functioning breathalyzer machine. Officer Simonetti administered the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators, which Kelsey agreed to. She consented to providing breath samples for testing. The Alcotest results revealed a BAC of 0.13%, exceeding the legal limit of 0.08%. Following the administration of the Alcotest, Kelsey was escorted back to the Mount Olive Police Department. Upon completion of the processing procedures, she was released to the custody of a responsible adult pending her court appearance, subsequent to her endorsement of the Potential Liability Warning form. Officer Simonetti issued her traffic tickets for Operating under the influence and reckless driving.
