On October 6, 2025, an LAPD Central Division sergeant witnessed an active shooting near 5th Ave & Main Street. The armed suspect, identified as 27-year-old Isaiah Gregory Springs, fled on foot, leading officers through several downtown blocks. During the pursuit, Springs pointed a handgun, resulting in an officer-involved shooting. Springs was struck with less-lethal 40mm rounds and taken into custody. A firearm was recovered at the scene. The shooting victim later succumbed to injuries. No officers or community members were otherwise injured.
