Watch this police interrogation with intense raw interrogation from the interrogation room as police conduct a full interrogation of a suspect. This raw interrogation footage captures every moment of the suspect interview, complete with deception detection techniques, and criminal psychology in true JCS style interrogation. The Background Shyla A. Osborne and Daniel E. Cason, both 31 at the time, were engaged and lived together in Walla Walla, Washington. They had a documented history of conflict. In 2015, Osborne obtained a temporary protection order against Cason, citing concerns about his temper, a risk to her young son, an incident in which she said he shoved her while she was pregnant, and his threats of suicide. She later terminated the order after he left the area. The immediate dispute before the shooting involved arguments over finances and other issues. Osborne later claimed self-defense. Prosecutors treated the death as a homicide after reviewing evidence that undercut that claim. The Crime Date: August 29, 2017. Location: The couple’s home in the 500 block of East Cherry Street, Walla Walla, Washington. The shooting was reported at about 2:38 p.m. The pair argued on August 28, 2017. Court documents and cellular data indicated the argument that night ended and they separated for a period. While Cason was with a friend, Osborne retrieved a Ruger LC9 pistol from atop the refrigerator, placed it in her bra, and kept it on her overnight. The next day she messaged and called people asking about self-defense and whether they “would be mad if she did something.” Those contacts told her to contact law enforcement. She also searched online for Washington self-defense laws. That afternoon they argued again. A struggle over the gun followed. After a misfire, Osborne cleared the malfunction and shot Cason three times in the head (described in reports as behind the right ear / back-right side of the head). Cason, 31, died from those wounds. The case was initially treated as a domestic-violence incident. The Investigation Walla Walla police investigated; Detective Sgt. Matt Wood was among those quoted in reports. Osborne remained in the community and cooperated with police for more than a year. No arrest was made immediately while investigators waited on Washington State Patrol crime-lab results (blood, bullets, and other scene evidence) and checked her self-defense account. Key evidence cited in charging documents included: phone searches for self-defense law; messages and calls about “doing something”; retrieval and concealment of the pistol the night before; and the sequence of a misfire followed by three shots to the head after she freed herself in the struggle. Prosecutors said cellular data suggested the prior night’s argument had ended and the pair had separated before she armed herself. First-degree murder charges were filed in early October 2018. Osborne was arrested October 8, 2018. Bail was set at $500,000; a request for release was denied. She pleaded not guilty. Trial dates were set and postponed multiple times. Conviction and Sentencing Only Osborne was charged. There was no co-defendant. Original charge: first-degree murder. June 10, 2021: She pleaded guilty in Walla Walla County Superior Court to an amended charge of second-degree murder, days before a June 21, 2021 trial date. Standard range for the offense was roughly 10–18 years. Prosecutors recommended 150 months (12½ years). The defense asked for about 123 months (just over 10 years). December 29, 2021: Judge Brandon L. Johnson sentenced her to 150 months (12½ years) in prison after a Department of Corrections presentence investigation. Sources for the above are contemporaneous reporting by the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin and the Associated Press that cite charging papers, court documents, the coroner’s report, and statements by Walla Walla County Prosecuting Attorney James L.
