They noticed a blue 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander parked partly on the street and partly on the sidewalk. This vehicle was blocking the driveway of 1480 North Broad Street. As the officers got closer, they saw a woman in the driver's seat. She was later identified as 32-year-old V. Reyes, hunched over and still at the steering wheel, with her hair covering her face. On the passenger side, they found a man asleep in the front seat. The officers started knocking on the window to wake up the driver and passenger. When neither of them stirred, Officer Da Cruz managed to open the passenger door, while Officer Veloso opened the driver’s side. As they entered the car, a strong smell of alcohol hit them. They spotted an open bottle of Milagro tequila on the front passenger floor. Officer Da Cruz switched off the engine, waking Ms. Reyes as the man in the car shook her. Blinking in confusion, she looked around, unsure of her surroundings. Her eyes were red and glassy, and the smell of alcohol lingered on her breath. When she tried to start the vehicle again, officers took the key fob from her. Ptl Rodriguez, Ptl Thomas, Ptl Walker, Ptl Lewis, and Sgt Wanat soon arrived to provide support. When Ms. Reyes finally got out of the car, she leaned against it to steady herself. When asked where she had been, Ms. Reyes mentioned she was coming from a birthday party and admitted she had been drinking. Officer Da Cruz informed Ms. Reyes that she would undergo a field sobriety test due to suspicions of driving under the influence. Throughout the process, Ms. Reyes leaned against her car for support. She could not lift either foot during the one-leg stand test. Additionally, she struggled to walk heel-to-toe in the walk and turn test. Due to her failure to follow instructions and signs of intoxication, Officer Da Cruz arrested Ms. Reyes on suspicion of driving under the influence. Soon after, Ms. Reyes' father arrived to take her male passenger away from the scene. Ms. Reyes arrived at Hillside Police Headquarters without any trouble. Once there, Officer Lewis conducted a search and led her to the prisoner bench. She was informed of her Miranda Rights and showed the N.J. Attorney General’s Standard Statement form, but she declined to give a breath sample. Officers checked for any active warrants against her, and the results were clear with none found. Afterward, Ms. Reyes was released to her father at the station after he signed a form acknowledging potential liability. She received four citations. The first was for operating a vehicle under the influence. The second was for having an open container of alcohol. The third ticket was for refusing to take a chemical test. Lastly, she consented to provide breath samples. If you enjoyed this BodyCamBust video .
