On August 30, 2024, Cleveland State University Police Officer Brooks observed a vehicle stopped in the middle of the entrance of a parking garage. The 26-year-old driver was passed out with the vehicle still running and the keys in the ignition. The driver was unresponsive to all of Officer Brooks' questions. The police report indicates that Officer Brooks could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the male. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) was called to transport the man to the hospital. Officers then identified the man as a Cleveland Police Officer based on the badge in his wallet. A Sergeant from the Cleveland Police Department responded to the scene, but the officer was already on his way to the hospital. CSUPD charged the driver with Operating a Vehicle Impaired (OVI). His case is still open. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
