At approximately 9:48 PM on May 20, 2020, Brick Township Police received a call from a driver whose car had gone into a wooded area near Pilot Drive and Alemeda Drive. When officers arrived, they found a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe stuck between the trees. They notified dispatch about the incident and approached the driver, later identified as Kelsey Bykow. As they interacted with Kelsey, it became clear that she showed signs of impairment. When they asked if she had been drinking, she confessed to having alcohol at her coworker’s house earlier that day. Given their concerns about her impairment and her admission, they suggested she take field sobriety tests. Kelsey refused to do the tests, leading them to arrest her on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Her vehicle was impounded for a required 12-hour period under John’s Law, and she was taken to the Brick Township Police Department for processing.
