A late-night traffic stop escalates quickly as an officer uncovers potential impairment and an open container after a witness reports erratic driving. At approximately 11:37 PM, an officer responded to a report of an erratic driver who had reportedly damaged a sign. The officer located the black 2016 Jeep and initiated a stop, making contact with the driver. During the interaction, the officer observed indicators of impairment and asked the driver to exit the vehicle, leading to a field sobriety test. Although the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test was administered, the officer terminated the exercises due to safety concerns and subsequently placed the driver under arrest for operating under the influence. A search of the vehicle revealed an open container of alcohol, leading to the vehicle's impoundment under John's Law, and the driver was transported for processing.
