On July 13, 2025, Rio Rancho Police Officers responded to a city park, where the driver of a SUV had driven on park property and got stuck in a ditch. The 38-year-old woman caused damage to the playground curb. After refusing medical attention from EMS personnel, Officers initiated a Driving While Under the Influence (DWI) investigation on the woman, who had apparently urinated on herself. She was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests, which concluded with her being placed under arrest. At the police station, she submitted two breath samples and the results were 0.29% BAC and 0.31% BAC. Her case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
