It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: On the night of April 26, 2024, around 11:00 PM, Rumson police got a tip about a wild driver speeding along Ridge Road toward Holy Cross Church. Officer James Wrightington spotted a 2012 Lexus swing onto Ward Avenue from Hartshorne Lane. The car zipped past him from the church lot. He tailed it down Ward Avenue. Right away, he saw the driver skip a signal at the stop sign near Rumson Road. She halted smack in the middle of the street. That split the north and south lanes. Then she hooked a left onto eastbound Rumson Road. As they neared the Sea Bright Bridge, the Lexus weaved over the double yellow line. Wrightington flipped on his lights. He pulled her over just before the bridge. He approached the driver. Her name was Melissa. While talking to her, he smelled booze on her breath. Melissa said she was just heading home. She swore she hadn't drunk anything that night. Suspecting she was tipsy, he asked her to step out. She had to do sobriety tests. Officer James Camilleri showed up to help. She refused the breath test. Her boyfriend picked her up later. He signed the liability warning for her. Court loomed ahead. Wrightington handed her tickets: DUI, breath sample refusal, no signal, and lane drift. Records show that on September 11, 2024, Melissa copped a plea to the DUI charge.
