On September 5, 2025, Boynton Beach Police responded to a serious crash involving a white Lexus and a Palm Beach County school bus at the intersection of Citrus Park Boulevard and Lawrence Road in Boynton Beach, Florida. Witnesses reported that the Lexus had been traveling unusually slowly and swerving between lanes before suddenly making a sharp turn and colliding with the school bus. The driver, identified as 38-year-old Megan Lee Champion, had her 11-year-old daughter in the vehicle. Fortunately, the school bus had no students on board, and the bus driver was not seriously injured. When officers began speaking with Champion, they reported observing signs they believed were consistent with impairment, including lethargic behavior, glassy eyes, slurred speech, difficulty maintaining balance, and an odor of alcohol. Champion denied drinking. Officers then attempted to conduct field sobriety testing, but the situation became increasingly difficult. According to police records, Champion was later arrested and booked into the Palm Beach County Jail. She faced charges including DUI involving property damage, DUI while driving with a minor in the vehicle, and refusing to sign and accept a traffic summons. Reports also state that she refused breath and urine testing.
