#news #police #arrest #cops #shoplifting #walmart Report: On 10/1/2021, Officer was at Lowe's, when He observed the suspect at this location. Officer had just signed arrest warrants on the suspect earlier this date and knew that they hadn't been turned over to CCSO yet by the Clarke County Magistrate Court. Officer called the Magistrate Court to see if he could get these warrants taken over to CCSO so that the officer could take the suspect into custody, since officer knew where he was at, but the officer was unable to get this done. Although he had active warrants, and the officer knew him to have active warrants, CCSO would not/could not accept him until they received the warrants from Magistrate Court and Magistrate Court was holding onto these warrants and would not take them over to CCSO until they could get these warrants completely processed. The suspect is known to steal merchandise from local businesses, but he left Lowe's without taking any merchandise. Officer followed him down to Wal-Mart and alerted WalMart Loss Prevention that he was at this location. The suspect had just committed a theft at this business (Wal-Mart) on 9/29. Officer had observed him on scene that date while he was at the store that date and Emily Bond, from Loss Prevention, checked surveillance footage and they found evidence that the suspect entered the store with no merchandise, bagged merchandise he selected in an aisle, and then left with this merchandise without first making payment for it. He then left the parking lot and came right back and returned the merchandise he had just stolen by presenting it as merchandise that he had previously purchased. He obtained a fraudulent refund that date by returning merchandise to Wal-Mart that already belonged to them that he had just stolen. The warrants the officer had obtained on the suspect were for Theft by Shoplifting and Theft by Deception. When he entered Wal-Mart this date (10/1), the officer watched him sit in his vehicle in the parking lot for a little while. Officer notified loss provention that the suspect was there and she picked up the suspect on surveillance footage and when he entered the store, another loss prevention employee followed him live on the floor. Officer went into the office and watched surveillance footage with loss prevention. They (collectively) observed the suspect select merchandise, go into an aisle without this merchandise bagged, and then emerge from an aisle with this merchandise bagged. After he walked out of the store, into the vestibule, with this merchandise without making payment for it, officer stopped the suspect and placed him under arrest. They recovered the merchandise he had left the store with and it was identified as $145.86 worth of clothing items he had concealed and left the store with. Loss prevention issued the suspect a criminal trespass warning, barring him from this business for a period of two years. Central was notified of this barring. Officer Deckert transported the suspect to CCSO where he was booked for Theft by Shoplifting (M).
