It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: Patrolman Andrew Slota arrived at the Wawa on Lacey Road around 7:55 AM on March 1, 2025. He was there to help Patrolman Kevin Tranz. They were investigating a DWI. Amariah Keith was the driver. After Amariah failed field sobriety tests, she was arrested. Her girlfriend, Marissa Valdez, arrived. Marissa seemed upset about Amariah’s arrest. Officers told Marissa that Amariah would be processed at the station. They said Marissa could meet her there. The officers let Marissa drive away. She parked at the nearby police station. Patrolman Slota and Sergeant Michael Verwey stayed at the Wawa. They waited for a tow truck. A few minutes later, Marissa returned to the Wawa. She walked from the station parking lot. She spoke with the officers again. Sergeant Verwey smelled alcohol on Marissa. He suspected she might be drunk. Patrolman Slota then gave Marissa field sobriety tests. First, Marissa took the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. Patrolman Slota saw her eyes jerk. They did not move smoothly. Her eyes twitched at the farthest point. They started to twitch before 45 degrees. Next, Marissa tried the Walk and Turn test. She did not step heel-to-toe. She also raised her arms for balance. Finally, she took the One Leg Stand test. Marissa did not lift her foot correctly. She put her foot down too soon. Based on the alcohol smell, her confession, and failed tests, Marissa was arrested. She was charged with driving under the influence. Her car was towed. It would be held for 12 hours per John's Law. Patrolman Slota took Marissa to the police station. At the station, Marissa heard the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators. She agreed to take breath tests. Her breathalyzer results showed a BAC of 0.285%. This was much higher than the legal limit. After the test, her mother picked her up. Her mother signed the statement for her. Marissa received tickets for driving under the influence. She was also cited for reckless driving. Later, Marissa was arrested again. This happened on March 24, 2025, in Toms River.
