A late-night call about a firearm discharge leads officers to a woman who denies any involvement, despite a weapon found in her possession. At approximately 11:18 PM on December 18, 2022, Athens-Clarke County Police Department officers responded to reports of a firearm discharged near Clayton Street and N Jackson Street. A witness described two females arguing, with one discharging a handgun into the air before walking towards College Avenue. Officer Robert Bailey located a shell casing outside a club called Toppers, and a worker directed him to a dressing room where the suspect, a young adult white woman, was found. Despite her denial of any wrongdoing, officers located a GLOCK 9mm handgun in a holster under her pleated plaid skirt. She was then placed in handcuffs, transported to the Athens-Clarke County Jail, and charged with Disorderly Conduct, Reckless Conduct, and other related statutes, even as she continued to explain her innocent presence at a Christmas party and deny making any threats. --- Transparency through the lens of the law.
