#news #police #arrest #cops #shoplifting Report: On 11/11/2021, Officers were in the area and found the vehicle they were looking for. The vehicle was a Toyota Sequoia. The registered owner nad warrants for hit and run and had been involved in multiple shopliftings in the past. His partner frequently drives the suspect to and from locations where the suspect shoplifts. Officers were aware that the suspect had multiple warrants for shoplifting and probation violation. Officers saw the vehicle pull into the fenced parking lot. Due to the fact that the suspected occupants have ran in the vehicle in the past, the officers blocked the exit and approached the vehicle on foot. When doing so, the officer had just arrived and saw a black male matching the description of the suspect walking away from the vehicle. The officer drove his car around to the area of the fence that the suspect was walking towards. When the suspect saw the officer approaching, he ran to the fence, jumped it, and began running. The officer got out of my vehicle and told the suspect to stop or he was going to get tased. In total, the officer told the suspect to stop or he was going to get tased 3 times. He continued to run away from the officer. While in a foot pursuit, the suspect fell twice. He fell once on the grass, then got up and continued running. The officer then fell again in the middle of the street while attempting to cross by the homeless day center. It was at that point that the officer was finally close enough to see the laser from my taser on his back. When he was getting back up the second time, the officer told him to stay on the ground. Officer made contact with his back but was unable to push or grab him. When he got up and started running again, the officer deployed his taser. One prong made contact in his middle back and the other on his left thigh. The prongs connected and the suspect experience a full body lock up and fell to the ground. The officer ordered him to stay on his stomach and place his hands behind his back. Once the 5 second deployment had expired, the officer rolled over onto his stomach and placed one arm behind his back. The officer was under the impression that he had given up and was attempting to comply with orders. Afterwards, the officer discovered he was pulling one of the prongs out of his back. The suspect then stood up while still leaving his arm behind his back. He was ordered to get on the ground and put his hands behind his back and he refused. Another officer arrived and was able to force the suspect back to the ground. It was at this point that the officer holstered his taser and grabbed his right arm, pulling it behind his back. He was placed into handcuffs, double locked behind his back. No further force was used. The taser prongs were promptly removed, Howard was placed in a recovery position, and EMS was asked to respond to the scene. The suspect was transported to a nearby vehicle and placed in the rear while we waited for EMS to respond. Once checked out by EMS, the suspect was transported to the jail without incident. The officer will be seeking warrants on the suspect for obstruction and the Sheriff's office will be serving him with the warrants he already has. The officers used taser cartridge will be placed into evidence.
