Remember the viral Royse City pool arrest? The department has now fired the officer at the center of the confrontation after Internal Affairs concluded that he violated department standards, policies and procedures. But this case is not over. Royse City cleared three other officers, announced that the 18-year-old woman will not face charges, and is referring another woman’s case to the Collin County District Attorney for a possible charging decision. Meanwhile, the bodycam and dashcam footage reviewed during the investigation still has not been publicly released. That leaves several accountability questions: • Why were the other officers cleared? • What does the complete bodycam and dashcam footage show? • Will the public receive the Internal Affairs records? • What was reported to TCOLE following the officer’s termination? • Will civilian and officer conduct receive equal scrutiny? TAKE ACTION — KEEP IT FACTUAL AND LAWFUL No threats. No harassment. Focus on public evidence, equal scrutiny and transparent decisions.
