Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: At approximately 2:45 p.m. on March 28, 2022, Patrolman David Atkinson of the Cape May Police Department was called to Swede Things in America at 307 Washington Street for a report of a shoplifting that had occurred. Since it was reported that the suspect fled, Patrolman Atkinson began a foot patrol while Patrolman Alexander Pruzinski went into the store to take the report. Around the same time, Lieutenants Joseph Walker and Kristopher Mazza were putting up no parking signs in the 400 block of Carpenters Lane when they were informed by a passerby that a robbery had probably occurred in the shopping center. They got into their patrol car and radioed Cape May County Communications before learning that a woman with red hair was suspected of shoplifting. While driving south on Ocean Street near Washington Street, they spotted a woman with red hair matching this description. When Lt. Mazza asked her to pull over, she attempted to do so and drove toward Hughes Street. She was eventually located in a backyard on Hughes Street. After she was located, the suspect was identified as Adele. Other officers combed the area and eventually found the goods that Adele had allegedly stolen from the gift store. Based on their suspicions, Adele was arrested. A search of her bag revealed that she was in possession of a substantial amount of cash, which was later counted at the station and revealed a value of over $10,000. After Adele was arrested, Sgt. Murphy transported her to the Cape May Police Department for further processing. At the station, it turned out that she had a warrant for her arrest from Brick Township and had been arrested several times before. She also claimed to have a bank receipt showing possession of over $10,000 in cash. After Adele was questioned and posted a $250 bond from her Brick Township warrant, she was released with a summons. She was also charged with shoplifting under 2C:20-11B(2) for the Cape May incident. The items she allegedly stole from the gift store were a baseball cap, gloves, a black hat, a small bag, and a key chain. Court records show that Adele was later arrested several times in Point Pleasant Beach, Eatontown and Brick Township. Some of these cases are still pending in court as of July 21, 2024.
