A routine traffic stop for excessive speeding escalated dramatically when officers detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the driver. The incident began when Patrolman Michael Poon observed a 2015 Toyota Camry traveling 85 MPH in a 55 MPH zone, leading to a stop by Patrolwoman Arlene Lippencott. As Patrolman Poon engaged with the driver, she admitted to consuming two glasses of wine and, critically, disclosed that she was approximately a month and a half pregnant. This revelation introduced a complex layer to the ongoing driving under the influence investigation. She consented to standardized field sobriety exercises, during which she exhibited clear signs of impairment, failing to adequately perform the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand tests, notably raising her arms for balance. Consequently, she was placed under arrest for operating under the influence. At headquarters, after being read her Miranda rights, her Alcotest results showed a blood alcohol content of 0.14%. Following processing, she was released to her mother and issued multiple summonses, including for operating under the influence, speeding, and reckless driving. --- Transparency through the lens of the law.
