Two students were taken into custody after making separate threats toward their schools. Deputies say 15-year-old Xavier Pineda wrote a message on his school-issued laptop threatening to bring a gun to Deltona High School and harm another student. The post triggered a Gaggle alert, which quickly notified the school resource deputy. The deputy located and detained Xavier before he could leave campus. He later admitted to writing the threat, claiming he didn’t mean it and was just upset over being bullied. In a separate case, 13-year-old Jasper Kessell at River Springs Middle School drew an image of an AR-15–style rifle on his desk, along with the words “F*** my school” and a specific date and time. Jasper told investigators he’d been bullied but hadn’t reported it and was trying to deal with it himself. Both students were charged with second-degree felonies and taken to the Volusia Family Resource Center for processing. While bullying is a serious issue, making threats is never the solution. Parents are urged to talk with their children about the dangers of both bullying and reacting in anger. Credit: Volusia County Sheriff’s Office
