A routine traffic stop for extreme speeding unravels into a complex situation when officers suspect impairment and discover a driver's significant personal revelation. On a rural highway, a patrolman observed a vehicle traveling 85 MPH in a 55 MPH zone, necessitating another officer's assistance to stop the car. Upon approach, officers detected the odor of alcohol from the driver, who subsequently admitted to consuming red wine earlier and revealed she was pregnant. Based on these suspicions, officers offered standardized field sobriety exercises, which the driver agreed to perform. She failed multiple components, including the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand tests, showing clear signs of impairment. Consequently, she was arrested for driving under the influence, and later at headquarters, her Alcotest results indicated a 0.14% BAC, leading to multiple summonses and release to her mother. --- Transparency through the lens of the law.
