It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: On the night of February 23, 2025, around 10:39 PM, Sergeant Bradley Schumacher from the St. Charles Police Department spotted a 2017 Hyundai Elantra zooming at 51 MPH in a 30 MPH zone on the 1000 block of E Main Street. He tailed the car as it drove west. The driver swung left onto S 5th Avenue, then right onto Illinois Avenue. Schumacher flicked on his emergency lights for a stop. The driver hooked right onto S 3rd Avenue and finally pulled over. Schumacher approached the driver, a 24-year-old named Julianna Sakar. She said she figured the speed limit was 45 MPH. He corrected her—it's 30. While they talked, he caught a whiff of alcohol. He worried she might be driving drunk. Julianna handed over her Illinois State ID and a temp driver's license. She mentioned a past DUI. She was heading from her boyfriend's place, she said, and owned up to downing a tall Miller Lite beer that night. A quick system check later showed her license was suspended from a DUI bust in Geneva, Illinois, back on September 13, 2024. Officers Wessendorf and Patel rolled up to help. Schumacher led her to a parking deck at 200 Walnut Avenue for sobriety tests. First came the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus check. Next, the Walk and Turn. Last, the One Leg Stand. Once done, Schumacher figured she wasn't hammered enough for another DUI arrest. No DUI charge that time. But driving on a suspended license? That meant cuffs. He locked her up and slid her into the patrol car. Wessendorf drove her to the St. Charles station for booking. Schumacher grabbed her dog and brought it along, caging it until she got out. After processing, they cut her loose for court. Wessendorf dropped her at home.
