The Portland Police Bureau continues its work in self-analysis and improvement of crowd management and response to public order events, and for years has been working with an internationally recognized expert on public order policing, as well as the psychology and dynamics of crowd behavior. That expert is Clifford Stott, a Professor of Social Psychology at Keele University in the United Kingdom. He spent the week in Portland conducting training workshops for PPB, and was introduced to the public at a press conference on April 4, 2025 at the Justice Center in Downtown Portland. More information about Professor Stott is available here: https://www.keele.ac.uk/psychology/people/cliffordstott/ PPB is also engaged in preparations for demonstrations planned for Saturday, April 5, 2025. At the press conference, we provide some information about our preparations for Saturday, as well as our ongoing work to prepare for and respond to public order events. Chief Bob Day and Assistant Chief Craig Dobson also provided some remarks.
