Shamari Slater, 15, was arrested for posting a written threat on Instagram, saying he wanted to “hurt someone badly” and including two gun emojis. He was not at Spruce Creek High School but authorities went to his home, interviewed him, and took him into custody. This arrest also violated the terms of his home detention from an earlier charge of resisting an officer with violence, which he received two weeks ago after interfering with Port Orange police responding to a bomb threat on a school bus. The purpose of sharing these incidents is to show that threats on social media can have serious consequences. Parents, it’s important to make sure your children understand this.
