Shots fired on a Florida highway. Multiple crashes. An armed suspect refusing to surrender. And a dramatic police Taser takedown. On June 27, 2020, deputies from the Sumter County Sheriff's Office in Florida responded to reports of a man firing a gun at passing vehicles on Interstate 75. Callers reported that 41-year-old Miguel Espinoza Navarro was waving a firearm and shooting at vehicles from a black Ford truck. The situation quickly escalated. Navarro reportedly rear-ended another vehicle before continuing northbound on I-75. He later crashed into a guardrail, where deputies confronted him during a tense standoff. After reportedly waving his firearm toward officers, Navarro discarded the weapon and attempted to flee again. But the pursuit wasn't over. Following another crash, Navarro abandoned his vehicle and tried escaping on foot. That's when deputies deployed a TASER. Officers successfully took him into custody, ending a dangerous confrontation involving multiple crashes, reports of gunfire, and a police pursuit. Navarro was booked into the Sumter County Jail on several charges, including aggravated assault and resisting an officer. Fortunately, authorities reported that no deputies or members of the public were injured during the incident.
