Around 3:05 AM on March 21, 2025, Officer Kyle Brown with the Tampa Police Department observed a westbound 2016 Ford Mustang running through a red light at the intersection of East 7th Avenue and North 15th Street. He activated his lights to initiate a traffic stop, and the driver pulled over in front of 1416 East 7th Avenue. The officer made contact with the driver, who was identified as 23-year-old Alexia Lezama. As he was speaking with her, he observed indicators of impairment and detected the odor of alcohol. She would later admit that she and her passenger were coming from Club Prana in the Ybor City neighborhood. She admitted to drinking alcohol before operating a motor vehicle. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Alexia was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises after Officer Baden arrived on scene. Officer Baden started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Alexia did not touch heel-to-toe on each step, turned improperly, and took an incorrect number of steps. The third exercise was the One Leg Stand test, and Alexia failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion. Based on her traffic infraction, her indicators of impairment, her admission to consuming alcohol earlier that evening, and her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, Alexia was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. After she was placed under arrest, her friend attempted to argue with the officers before walking away. Alexia was transported by Officer Baden to the Orient Road Jail for further processing. She agreed to submit to a breath test and her BrAC results were 0.198 and 0.190, which were over the legal limit of 0.08.
