A Bernalillo County deputy clocks a pickup truck driving 80 mph in a 45 mph zone and pulls it over on a highway on-ramp in Albuquerque. The driver hands him an Albuquerque police ID card. Then he refuses to take a breath test. 🎥 In today's copyrighted documentary, we report on an incident that occurred in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It's just before midnight on the day after Christmas. A Bernalillo County sheriff's deputy is driving north on Coors Boulevard when a pickup truck passes him going the other way. His radar shows the truck driving 80 mph in a 45 mph zone. He turns around to catch up. The report says the truck is drifting between two lanes. He catches it on the ramp from Coors onto Interstate 40 and pulls it over on the ramp. Every window on the truck is already down when the deputy walks up. He asks the driver why he is driving like that. The driver says, "I might not be a good driver." He hands over his driver's license and an Albuquerque Police Department ID card. He is 31-year-old Truitt Bushnell, an off-duty Albuquerque police officer. He says he has to be at work at 8 in the morning. The deputy says he smells alcohol and sees bloodshot, watery eyes. Bushnell says he has not had a drink. He says the smell is cologne, and he always chews gum because he quit dipping tobacco. The deputy asks him to do field sobriety tests. Bushnell says he can't. He says he broke his ankle in a gunfight while on duty, he has arthritis, and his hands have been broken. So the deputy does the eye test and three other tests instead. According to the report, Bushnell counts backward correctly and does the finger test correctly, but he skips three letters on the alphabet test. The deputy tells him he has been doing this a long time and offers him a handheld breath test to prove him wrong. Bushnell says, "No, sir." The deputy arrests him for DWI and reads him New Mexico's implied consent law. Bushnell asks for a blood test instead of a breath test. The deputy tells him the breath test comes first. Bushnell never gives a breath sample. He is charged with aggravated DWI for refusing the test, speeding, and failing to stay in his lane. The Albuquerque Police Department puts him on administrative leave. He has pleaded not guilty. The case has been continued five times and is still pending. ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS: 00:00 Do You Know Your Alphabet 00:10 Day After Christmas Speeding Stop 00:34 Deputy Pulls Over The Truck 02:28 Driver Hands Over Police ID 03:26 Out Of The Truck Gum And Cologne 04:16 Injuries And Alternative Tests 06:16 Eye Test On The Ramp 08:05 Alphabet And Counting Backward 10:32 Finger Test Three Rounds 11:59 Arrest And Implied Consent 15:21 Blood Test Or Breath Test 17:27 Charges Leave And Case Status 📺 MORE LIKE THIS — watch the latest Breaking Bodycams documentaries: 👉 https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL89-g15XsVc0WxE8UISQXCrCctoEPo46v 📌 ABOUT BREAKING BODYCAMS Breaking Bodycams covers law enforcement encounters across the country, with a heavy focus on the Southwest and New Mexico.
