It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: On February 17, 2024, at around 3:58 AM, Officers Lucas Silva and Thomas Kelly from the Township of Union Police saw a 2019 Jeep stopped in the middle of Oakland Avenue near Stuyvesant Avenue. When they turned around to check, they noticed a snow-covered pedestrian sign lying in the street. Officer Kelly was the first to report the incident to dispatch and then spoke with the driver and her three passengers. The woman was hesitant and gave false information about her age several times, but they eventually identified her as 20-year-old Camila Cabrera-Mora. While talking to Camila, Officer Kelly detected the smell of alcohol and saw other signs of impairment. She admitted she had drunk a beer at a party earlier that night. Because it was snowing, officers couldn't perform field sobriety tests. But the car crash, the smell of alcohol, and her admission led them to arrest Camila for driving under the influence. Her vehicle was impounded for 12 hours, as required by John’s Law. Camila was taken to the police station for processing. Officer Toni Roman searched her, and the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators was read to her. Camila agreed to give breath samples, which showed a BAC of 0.14%. That is almost twice the legal limit of 0.08% for drivers over 21. After processing, officers released her into her sister’s custody. Her sister signed the Potential Liability Warning form on Camila’s behalf, and she was told to appear in court later.
