It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: The night of January 31, 2023, was drawing to a close. It was almost midnight when Officer Gregory Landry saw a white Jeep. The Jeep was moving north on N Himes Avenue. The driver was swerving between lanes. Officer Landry turned on his lights to stop the car. The Jeep turned right onto W Lemon Street and stopped. The driver was a 25-year-old woman named Kayln. She told the officer she was going to work. Officer Landry spoke with Kayln, noticing the smell of alcohol. He also saw other signs she was not ok to drive. Kayln said she had two drinks earlier that night. This was before she drove her car. Officer Landry thought Kayln was unsafe to drive. He started a DUI investigation. Kayln was asked to get out of the car. She was told to do field sobriety exercises. Kayln kept asking for her lawyer. She wanted the lawyer present for the tests. Finally, she consented to the field sobriety tests. Officer Landry began with the HGN test. Next was the Walk and Turn. On that test, Kayln struggled. She failed to touch heel-to-toe. Her arms were not at her sides. The last test was the One Leg Stand. Again, Kayln had issues. She did not raise her foot right. She could not keep her arms still. Kayln's driving was all over the place. The smell of booze filled the air. She failed the roadside tests miserably. Because of this, she was arrested for driving drunk. Officer Landry took Kayln to the Sheriff’s Office. Her car was towed away. Kayln refused breath testing at the jail. She faced DUI charges. A $500 bond secured her release as she awaited court. Her case closed on December 5, 2023. The DUI charge became reckless driving, court records showed. Kayln received probation. She also had to attend DUI school.
