Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: On April 13, 2024, at about 3:05 AM, Officer Nicholas Protopapadakis of the Hoboken Police Department was working an outside job when he noticed a white 2022 Tesla driving west on 4th Street. The car then made a turn onto Garden Street, which is a one-way street going south. As officers started to approach, they saw the driver attempt a K-turn right in the middle of the street, hitting the curb multiple times. The driver was eventually pulled over on 4th Street close to Park Avenue. When Officer Protopapadakis got to the vehicle, he spoke with the 23-year-old driver and her passenger. The officer requested her license, and shortly after, Officers Andrias Bonilla and Josh Campoverde arrived to help. When asked where she had been, she said she was coming from Lefkes in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. When inquired if she lived in Hoboken, she clarified that her passenger lived there, and she was driving her home. While speaking with the driver, the officer noticed a smell of alcohol and asked if she had been drinking. She denied it, but they saw several open containers in the car. Due to concerns about impairment, the driver was asked to get out of the car and perform some field sobriety tests. Officer Bonilla began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. While conducting this test, he noticed that the driver didn't have smooth eye movement, showed distinct nystagmus when looking to the sides, and exhibited signs of nystagmus before reaching a 45-degree angle. However, there were no signs of vertical nystagmus. Next was the Walk and Turn test, where the driver struggled to follow directions. She took 30 steps forward and 30 steps back but didn't manage to touch her heel to her toe on each step. Lastly, in the One Leg Stand test, she showed poor balance and couldn't lift her foot correctly. Due to her erratic driving, the smell of alcohol, open containers in her car, and her failure to complete the field sobriety tests, she was arrested for driving while intoxicated. She was then taken to the Hoboken Police Department for processing. After that, she was released to a sober adult who signed the Potential Liability Warning form for her, pending her court date. Officer Bonilla issued her several tickets: Operating under the influence, reckless driving, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, and having an open container.
