-Baltimore, MD. -June 29, 2023. Baltimore Police released body-worn camera video of the fatal police shooting in Southeast Baltimore at the end of June. Investigators say a total of 73 bullets were fired during officers' shootout with a suspect; police say five officers fired approximately 40 bullets, and the suspect fire 33. 40-year-old Darryl Gamble died after being shot by police. The department was unable to say how many bullets hit Gamble; the department was awaiting the results of the autopsy report. Police say they were trying to capture Gamble because of a warrant for drugs and firearm possession. "This was an incident where our officers did an outstanding job of taking an armed and dangerous criminal off the streets," said Acting Police Commissioner Richard Worley. Gamble had four firearms on him at the time of the shootout and two of them were configured to fire as automatic weapons, say police. Around 5:30 p.m. on June 29, 2023, police say they recognized Gamble as a man wanted on a warrant in the 100 block of Milton Avenue. Gamble attempted to flee from police, but his vehicle broke down near Fairmount Avenue and Milton Street, according to police. Gamble began firing an automatic weapon at officers striking a patrol vehicle, say police. Officers then returned fire at Gamble, who was pronounced dead at the scene after officers tried to help him, according to Worley. Police said the vehicle Gamble was using was not registered to him but was also not stolen.
