A black 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee had collided with a 2007 Honda Civic. When Officer Clark arrived, he saw the Jeep had hit the Civic from behind. He approached the Jeep's driver, a woman named Monica. Shortly after, Officer Heriberto Carattini arrived at the scene and talked to the people in the other car. Monica shared with Officer Clark that she had ended her relationship with her girlfriend just that evening. She also admitted to drinking before getting behind the wheel. While talking to her, Officer Clark noticed the strong smell of alcohol and other signs that made him suspect she was impaired. Because of this, he took Monica to a nearby parking lot to conduct field sobriety tests. Officer Clark began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. He noticed that both of Monica’s eyes did not move smoothly and showed noticeable shaking at maximum deviation. Next, they moved on to the Walk and Turn test. During this test, Monica struggled; she failed to heel-to-toe with each step, kept her arms up, and counted the steps incorrectly. For the final One Leg Stand test, Monica had trouble lifting her foot as required and showed poor balance. After the car accident, signs of impairment were clear. Monica admitted to drinking alcohol and struggled to pass the field sobriety tests. As a result, she was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Officer Clark took her to the Verona Police Department for processing. Another officer remained with the vehicle until it was towed, following the 12-hour impound rule set by John’s Law. At the Verona Police Department, Officer Clark presented the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators to her. She agreed to take breath tests at first. Officer Carattini then used the Alcotest machine, but she couldn't provide enough breath samples, even after several tries. Because of this, she faced charges for refusing to give the samples. Once Monica completed the processing, she was handed over to a sober adult who agreed to take care of her until her court date. This adult signed the Potential Liability Warning form for her. Officer Clark then issued Monica several charges: driving under the influence, refusing a chemical test, and reckless driving. On May 25, 2022, court records show that Monica was convicted for driving under the influence and for not taking a chemical test. As a result, she had to use an ignition interlock device for three months. Additionally, she spent 12 hours at a center for intoxicated drivers and paid $923 in fines. Another citation against her was dropped as part of a plea deal. 1:50 she could be bout to pull a weapon and ruin his family's lives by ending his life. If you enjoyed this BodyCamBust video.
