The incident took place around 7:19 a.m. on May 16, 2021, after a ShotSpotter alert notified officers of possible gunfire near South Lawndale Avenue. Responding units located a man later identified as 45-year-old Bruce Lua, walking through an alley. As officers approached, Lua suddenly opened fire, striking both officers. Despite being hit, one officer managed to return fire, wounding the suspect in the leg and ending the gunfight. All three — the two officers and Lua — were transported to local hospitals. Both officers have since been released and were honored by colleagues as they left the hospital. Lua survived his injuries and now faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) continues to review the incident as part of its standard investigation protocol. ⚠️ Viewer discretion is advised: This video contains real law enforcement footage released for transparency and public awareness. #ChicagoPolice #BodycamFootage #PoliceShootout #Lawndale #OfficerInvolvedShooting #BodycamVideo #PoliceTransparency #LawEnforcement #ShotSpotter #BodycamRaw Disclaimer: This video is presented for educational, documentary, and informational purposes only.
