Authorities say 28-year-old D’Zyre Youngblood of Atlanta played a role in a phone scam ring that allegedly posed as law enforcement officers to trick victims into sending thousands of dollars by threatening them with arrest. Investigators with the Volusia Sheriff’s Office Financial Crimes Unit say they tracked Youngblood through Bitcoin wallet transactions after a local woman lost $79,000 to the scam, believing she had been contacted by someone claiming to be “Captain Dietrich.” Youngblood was arrested on charges of grand theft and organized scheme to defraud. Investigators say the fraud operation is run by inmates in the Georgia prison system with assistance from people on the outside. Authorities say Youngblood is not the first person arrested in the investigation and that additional arrests are expected.
