It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: In the early hours of February 5, 2023, Officer Richards from the Ocean Township Police saw a 2011 Nissan swerving on the road. He pulled the car over and approached the driver, asking her about her journey. The driver, who was later named as 28-year-old Marina Gjorgjijoska, explained that she had just left Asbury Park and was on her way home to Ocean Township, New Jersey. As Officer Richards talked to her, he noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from the vehicle, and her eyes looked watery and red. Eventually, Gjorgjijoska confessed that she had been drinking earlier that evening. Officer Richards suspected that Gjorgjijoska might be under the influence, so he gave her a chance to take some field sobriety tests. The first one was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. This test revealed that Gjorgjijoska struggled to follow with her eyes smoothly and showed signs of nystagmus, which is the involuntary movement of the eyes, at the maximum point of deviation. Her eyes also exhibited nystagmus before reaching a 45-degree angle.Next came the Walk and Turn test. Gjorgjijoska had difficulty keeping her arms down, didn’t walk heel-to-toe for most of the steps, and stepped off the line multiple times. At one point, she even admitted that she forgot what to do next in the test. Finally, for the One Leg Stand test, Gjorgjijoska miscounted and couldn’t keep her balance. Officer Richards noticed that Gjorgjijoska was driving erratically. When questioned, she admitted she had been drinking. Because she struggled to complete the field sobriety tests, Officer Richards decided to arrest her for driving under the influence. She was then taken to the OTPD headquarters for further processing. At the police headquarters, Gjorgjijoska consented to a breathalyzer test. The results revealed that her blood alcohol content was 0.156%, which is almost double the legal limit. Officer Richards observed that during her booking, Marina's emotions swung wildly; she went from crying hard to laughing loudly in an instant. After finishing the booking, she received several citations: driving under the influence, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain her lane, and causing traffic delays. After talking with the officers earlier, it was decided that Gjorgjijoska needed to go to the hospital once the booking was finished. Officer Richards took her to Monmouth Medical Center for an evaluation in the emergency room.
