He stopped the car, which pulled into the Willow Place Apartments parking lot. The driver was identified as 19-year-old Ashley Hollinger. Ashley gave Deputy Alcantar her vehicle registration but could not provide a driver's license or proof of insurance. She also said her father worked as a police officer for the Port of Seattle Police Department. During the stop, Deputy Alcantar noticed that her eyes were red and watery. He also smelled alcohol on her breath. When asked how much she had consumed, Ashley said she had drunk three White Claws during the previous few hours. Seeing signs of possible impairment, Deputy Alcantar offered her the chance to complete voluntary field sobriety exercises. During the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus exercise, Deputy Alcantar saw a lack of smooth pursuit in both eyes. Ashley then performed the Walk and Turn test, but she failed to keep her feet heel-to-toe while walking in a straight line. During the One Leg Stand, she did not lift her foot as instructed or hold it in the required position. After the exercises, Ashley agreed to take a voluntary preliminary breath test. The result showed a BAC of 0.051%. Because she had trouble completing the exercises and had exceeded the legal limit for drivers under 21, Deputy Alcantar arrested her for driving under the influence. Ashley was taken to the nearby Pullman Police Department for processing. Her passenger went with her and was allowed to wait in the lobby. Deputy Alcantar read Ashley her constitutional rights. She waived those rights and agreed to answer questions. During the interview, she admitted driving while under the influence. Deputy Alcantar then read her the implied consent warnings. After completing the required observation period, Ashley agreed to a breathalyzer test. The Alcotest showed a BAC of 0.039%, nearly twice the 0.02% legal limit for drivers under 21. Ashley was released after the breath test while awaiting her first appearance in Whitman County District Court. She and her roommate received a courtesy ride back to their home. Ashley was cited under RCW 46.61.503 for driving under the influence while under 21. On October 28, 2021, Ashley pleaded guilty to the amended charge of Minor in Possession/Exhibiting Effects of Liquor under RCW 66.44.270(2). The court ordered her to complete three hours of community service and pay a $500 fine, a $300 probation fee, and a $43 criminal conviction fee. If you enjoyed this BodyCamBust video.
