On February 17, 2025, Bellingham Police Officer Bussdieker observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation. He initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, which was being driven by a 19-year-old woman. Throughout the course of the encounter, Officer Bussdieker asked the woman many times if she had consumed any alcohol and she repeatedly denied that she had. Officer Bussdieker asked the woman to step out the vehicle in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests. She was also asked to submit to a portable breath test, which she refused. She was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence and was transported to the Whatcom County Jail. She submitted to an evidential breath test and her result was 0.22% BAC (11 times the legal limit for someone under 21 years of age). Her case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
